the date is 2nd December. it felt like old schooldays… (old? hehe, it’s not even been a month since school was out)…still, it felt horrible having to wake up so early. it’s been three days in a row dat i’ve had to wake up early. i felt the bags under my eyes. so it was a koinkidink dat DJ airil on Pelangi Network was talking about his secret to relieving eyebags. he says he uses toothpaste - not alot lah, just a dab of it on a tissue and place under both eyes for several minutes. haha, mint and flouride?
in front of the closed MS gate, i met the other students who made it through - aimi, myself, fadhli, majdi, bo jun, haziq, hamiz, dk fitri and rohirda. when the bus arrived, off we went to seria. ~~the wheels on the bus go round and round..lalala~~
the driver was doing 80 so it took an hour plus plus to get to seria. i sat next to rohirda and we talked, got to know her a li’l better; and we had a good laugh when she had the thought of me dancing in the bus. haha, is dat thought really funny? anyways, come to think of it, i don’t think it was my first time to go to belait ‘cos i remember visiting TOTAL oil so technically, it was my second time. rohirda, dk fitri and i were seeing who could spot the first road worker and claim whose friend it was…hehe, weird but it helped time pass. the guys at the back were playing cards and one of them (i think it was bo jun, not sure) was showing card tricks.
once we got to the office, we were impressed to see the cars in the parking lot were all in reverse parking! hehe, sakai sikit, so consistent. we signed in, got the visitor passess and went thru’ the barriers just like the ones on the London Underground haha cool~~ there are rules ascending and descending the stairs at the office. on ascending, we stick to the left and holding the rails. on descending, on the right. safety reasons i guess…
at the conference room, met mr yin fah, mr jaafar and two other men (saya lupa nama mereka *innnocent smile*). they welcomed us to shell and congratulated us on coming this far. mr jaafar and mr yin fah briefed us on the petroleum engineering course which we would take, if we chose to accept, at UNSW. the course layout is actually very interesting.
this is the course description i got from the handbook of UNSW –> http://www.petrol.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate_study.htm
Petroleum Engineering is a specialised engineering discipline which prepares graduates for careers in the oil and gas industries. Its related operations apply physical, mathematical and engineering principles to identify and solve problems associated with exploration, exploitation, drilling, production and all the related economic and management problems associated with the recovery of hydrocarbons and alternative sources of energy from deep beneath the earth’s surface.
then we had a tour of office - met the petrophysicist (woah! look at the maths involved), the reservoir engineer (she said not to be afraid of the physics); and the geologist (cool colours to represent the wells hehe). the fun thing about it is dat everyone works together so u never have to feel alone and deadlines are never at the end of the day (not like school!) - looks like a cool job. we had lunch at the club and after the guys came back from sembahyang jumaat, we headed back to MS.
the ride back home was a quiet one. each of us had one week to decide. *sigh* the decision dat could change my life - i felt i was at a crossroad. a crossroad between medicine and engineering, two different fields each with its advantages and setbacks. rohirda and dk fitri who were next to me managed to get a bit of shut-eye but i couldn’t. i knew the decision was not going to be easy and i had to make it myself.
we arrived at MS at around 1530hrs. i sat on the steps with aimi and fadhli while waiting for mama and babah to pick me up. i told aimi that i wanted to take the course ‘cos it was so interesting and challenging and dat’s why i thought i could do it. but other issues like the future and the job after dat started popping up. *sigh* a hard decision…
as soon as i arrived home, my head started to spin. hehe, i had the same feeling one gets when one gets off a plane…. you feel like you are still in the air. i thought it was the heat as well. mama and babu muda (and iffah tagged along as well) brought me to the tailor so i could replace the shoulder pads on one of my baju kurung as well as re-do the whole shoulder area ‘cos they were too big. after that was done, iffah convinced us to stop by at the mall to buy crepe. it was my first time to try the crepe there - it was nothing compared to the ones i tried in france but no reason to be picky eh?
